Unlawful use of HEAL-Link’s subscribed content by its authorized users

Lately we have received complaints about the increased number of cases of unlawful use of HEAL-Link’s subscribed content by its authorized users. This is a systematic transfer (systematic downloading) of many journal articles, or even the entire contents of databases, such as the TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae).

The publishers, with whom HEAL-Link has contracts, have the right and the ability to cut access to all members of HEAL-Link in such cases because these acts are in breach of express terms of contracts signed by HEAL-Link.

Therefore we would like to draw attention to all members of the academic community to properly use the available computer equipment:

  • It is prohibited the use of software such as web crawlers for systematic downloading of HEAL-Link’s subscribed content.
  • It is prohibited the systematic downloading of large numbers of articles, the entire download of the contents of a publication or a journal volume, downloading the entire contents of a database.
